Yesterday Aldebaran Robotics released its newest addition to the world of humanoid robotics: NAO Next Gen. Advancements to this version of adaptable robot include a super powerful 1.6 GHz Intel Atom processor, that helps NAO multi-task while it makes its many calculations and adjustments. Two HD cameras that are object and face recognition capable with field-programmable gate array (FPGA) and voice recognition software in 8 languages that uses technology allowing the robot to spot specific words in speech. The NAO was developed with the idea of being a teaching tool and research aid. NAO learns, and students learn by teaching and manipulating NAO. Playing with the way it learns and develops is a hands-on way for humans to grasp the functionality of engineering, math and computer science.
